How to Convert WETH to ETH on Metamask with Uniswap. Since its inception before the development of the ERC-20 standards, the Ethereum Blockchain has several restrictions, despite the fact that it has powered many crypto projects that have consistently met with success.

As a result, Ethereum Classic (ETH) users have decided to “wrap” ETH, the native token of the Ethereum Blockchain, to create Wrapped Ethereum (WETH).

Even if there are uses for which Wrapped Ether is perfectly adequate, there are also circumstances in which it would be preferable to unwrap Ethereum.

Here, we’ll walk you through the steps required to convert Wrapped ETH into the standard ETH coin.

Wrapped Ethereum (ETH) vs. Ethereum Token (ETH) (WETH)

You probably already know that Ether (ETH) is Ethereum’s native token.

If you need to pay transaction fees, often known as gas costs in the Ethereum ecosystem, then you will need to use ETH.

However, like ETH, WETH can be found on the Ethereum Blockchain and is worth exactly the same amount.

You may rest assured that you won’t spend more money than necessary on the crypto token packaging transaction.

The primary distinction is that WETH can be put to use in smart contract-enabled, decentralized systems.

Benefits and Advantages of Wrapped Ethereum

When you Buy Ethereum, you’ll have the option of exchanging it into WETH, which will maintain the same value as the underlying ETH coin.

First, though, let’s take a look at a concrete application of WETH tokens in a wallet.

  • WETH’s practical application adds more value to the ETH for its holders without reducing the value of the ETH;
  • WETH is more compatible with other crypto coins;
  • WETH is compatible with legally binding smart contracts, DApps, and DAOs;
  • Fees for making purchases are lower than those of ETH;
  • Compared to ETH, transaction times are reduced.
  • The potential advantages of reduced transaction costs and increased safety are appealing.
  • Ethereum may be unwrapped at any time, although this is not a requirement.
  • The centralized nature of WETH is a direct result of its need on a custodian’s oversight.

This goes against the spirit of the ETH token, whose owners prioritize decentralization and asset ownership over corporate control.

The holders of ETH can unwrap Ethereum whenever they like. This is, thankfully, a rather simple task. So, here is How to Convert WETH to ETH on Metamask with Uniswap.

Here’s how to convert your WETH into ETH using MetaMask

How to Convert WETH to ETH on Metamask with Uniswap

We can now begin unwrapping Ethereum given that you have a foundational understanding of these tokens.

For the sake of convenience, we will complete the exchange using MetaMask and UniSwap.

Transactions on the Ethereum mainnet should present no serious issues, as UniSwap’s decentralized exchange is already fully functional.

Step 1: Go to Uniswap Website

Visit UniSwap first. It doesn’t matter whether you do this in your regular desktop browser or in MetaMask’s dedicated DApp browser; both methods will be equally effective.

  • Verify that you’ve got the appropriate network selected.
  • Select the Ethereum network if you want to convert WETH to ETH.
  • Switch to Polygon Mainnet if you wish to unwrap WETH in a single transaction on the Polygon network.

Step 2: Connect MetaMask Wallet

  • Open a new account with MetaMask. The wallet is available as a browser add-on or a mobile app.
  • You’ll be given a MetaMask Seed Phrase the first time you access your wallet.
  • There is a connection between this phrase and your private keys; if you wish to protect each private key, you must save this 12-word sentence in a safe place.

Step 3: Input the WETH Amount You Want to Unwrap

  • Click the wallet icon in UniSwap and connect MetaMask to it. The mobile site may replace icons with three dots.
  • In any case, select WETH in the “Swap” menu, followed by ETH.
  • There, you’ll be asked to enter the number of WETH you want to unwrap.

Step 4: Confirm to Unwrap

You must authorize the update on your hardware wallet device if you use one to approve MetaMask transactions.

Verify the unwrapping has taken place and all associated fees have been paid.

Having completed this step, your WETH will be converted to ETH and kept in your MetaMask wallet.

Right on! Note that the procedure is identical to wrapping ETH with UniSwap, except that this time you will be wrapping WETH to ETH.
