Ripple’s Swell Conference: A Brief Overview
Ripple Labs, founded in 2013, is a cryptocurrency company best known for its Ripple payment system and the XRP cryptocurrency asset it supports. Market capitalization-wise, XRP ranks #7 on CoinMarketCap as of October 2021.
Ripple, following its successful foray into the cryptocurrency trading market, launched its Swell conference that same year. The basic idea is to host a conference where numerous important people in the blockchain and cryptocurrency industries may engage with one another.
They wanted this conference there so they could have a lively discussion about “the way the world utilizes money today,” and they got their wish when they invited prominent blockchain and financial specialists.
A Review of Past Swell Conference Events
At the 2016 Swell conference, Ripple announced a $10 million commitment to Mercy Corps to help fund the organization’s use of digital assets to advance financial inclusion in developing countries.
Throughout the release process, Mercy Corps worked closely with Ripple and Ripple’s charitable arm, RippleWorks, to advocate for and promote options that utilize digital currencies and assets. Speaking during the conference, Mercy Corps Ventures’ senior managing director Scott Onder stressed the need of ensuring that underserved communities are not left out of the financial revolution.
He claimed that the current financial system is inefficient, antiquated, and restrictive, resulting in 1.7 billion people not having access to financial services and women being disproportionately left out of the system.
